postheadericon Base Jumping: A Truly Extreme Sport

BASE jumping is not a sport for the faint of heart. Athletes who practice this extreme sport climb to the top of tall buildings, canyons, or other structures; jump off; enjoy a period of free falling; then open a parachute and coast to the ground.

The acronym BASE stands for building, antennae, span, and earth; which make up a comprehensive list of what kinds of fixed objects BASE jumpers plummet from. Span is a term that includes all sorts of bridges, or any other structures that span over a valley or chasm. Earth means anything from cliffs to mountains to canyons.

BASE jumping is very dangerous for a variety of reasons, but the most common causes of injury and death have to do with failure to maintain a clear area around the athlete during the jump and/or the landing. If the wind is against them or if they make a mistake during the launch of their jump, athletes sometimes collide with the object that they have jumped from. Because BASE jumping areas are usually not designated for this guerilla-style sport, the makeshift landing targets that jumpers aim for are rarely large enough to allow for a safe jump. As a result many BASE enthusiasts meet with serious and sometimes fatal injuries because they haven’t been able to steer themselves to the landing area in time.

Many people compare BASE jumping to bungee jumping without a bungee cord, but it is actually much closer to skydiving without an airplane. Jumpers practice many of the same techniques that divers use to maintain stability and altitude awareness while they are in the air. Before becoming a BASE jumper, an athlete must complete a full course of skydiver training. Once they have their full skydiving certification, the next step for anyone interested in BASE is to find a mentor in the jumping community who can teach them how to take on these ambitious freefalls. Only experienced divers can even contemplate a BASE jump because this kind of unguided and somewhat unpredictable activity requires razor sharp awareness of altitude, along with stellar free fall technique.

BASE jumping is one of the most dangerous sports practiced today. Every year, BASE jumping leads to several fatalities, and most major BASE societies and clubs have seen at least one member perish in pursuit of the sport that he or she loved. Because no two jumps are alike, it is very difficult to predict what will happen once you start plummeting towards the ground. This means that to survive a BASE jump you need to have a very level head, an ability to react to surprises without panicking, and lightning speed reflexes that will allow you to make instantaneous adjustments in your position or your trajectory. However, no amount of experience can guarantee that you will complete your jump without mishap, so even very accomplished jumpers are taking serious risks every time they prepare to hurl themselves off of a building, antennae, span, or natural cliff.

postheadericon Florida Gators Football Tickets – Are We Witnessing The Birth Of A New Dynasty?

Florida Gators football tickets have been hard to find, and the team has held a special place in the hearts of Gators fans, for over 20 years now. The team was a perennial also-ran before the likes of Steve Spurrier showed up in Gainesville and transformed the Gators into a national power. The roots of such a run of dominance were beginning to take hold a bit before Spurrier arrived, but Florida was always a national contender under Spurrier and won the national championship in 1996.

However, after Spurrier left for the NFL, the Gators’ dominance began to wane as the team searched for an identity and lost quite a few games it never would have under their sometimes-controversial leader. Ron Zook, Spurrier’s replacement, was not beloved by any stretch in Gainesville, and he was basically run out of town after the 2004 season.

Zook is now struggling with a very bad Illinois team, and the job of restoring Gator glory fell on Urban Meyer, who was the “hot” coaching candidate after the 2004 season when he led Utah to unprecedented results and rankings. No one thought that Meyer would wind up in Florida, as most had him penciled in for the Notre Dame job, but in a very surprising turn of events, Meyer took the Florida job and declined Notre Dame’s overtures. The results are already beginning to show, and Florida Gators football tickets could once again become nearly impossible to find, as Meyer is building a foundation at Florida that could wind up rivaling Spurrier’s work. Below are a few reasons why this is the case.

Meyer’s System

Let’s face it – big-time college coaches are all more than competent when it comes to preparing a team for a game. There’s a reason they rose through the ranks and got to where they are. So what sets the truly great one apart? When it comes to in-game coaching, it’s the system that they have in place. Meyer’s spread offense is famous for its creativity and the difficulty it presents opponents in defending it. No one has really figured out how to stop it, and now that Meyer is in his second year, his system is beginning to take hold.

This spread offense has made several average-to-decent quarterbacks great ones, and one only need look at the current exploits of Chris Leak and Tim Tebow as well as how things worked out for Alex Smith at Utah to see just how effective this system can be. It’s possible that none of these quarterbacks would be NFL prospects without Meyer’s coaching, but Smith wound up being the first overall pick in the draft and Leak is headed to the NFL next season. Tebow, with the benefit of having four years under Meyer, has a ceiling that can’t even be defined at this point. Great offensive coaching leads to great quarterback play, and in college football, that alone can be enough to run a team through its schedule with a lot of wins.

Recruiting

Under Zook, the Gators were starting to lose a few of the recruiting battles that they had grown accustomed to winning under Spurrier, but Meyer has changed all of that. Meyer’s reputation is such that players want to go play for him, which does not bode well for Miami and Florida State, Florida’s traditional recruiting rivals. One can already see a few cracks in Miami’s and Florida State’s talent levels, and don’t think for a second that Meyer doesn’t have anything to do with that.

Great recruiting builds a great talent base, and even though Florida had what many considered to be the most brutal schedule in the country this season, the Gators are flying high and have a shot to qualify for the national championship game if they run the table through the rest of their SEC schedule.

All in all, a coaching system and a reputation lead to a recruiting advantage, and this recruiting advantage leads to a loaded roster, which Florida has already under Meyer. All of this can come together and lead to a run of national dominance, which is the direction in which Florida appears to be headed. If you’ve been faithfully using your Florida Gators football tickets during the recent “down years,” you may be rewarded soon for your patience.

postheadericon Creating a Layout for a Snowboard-themed Myspace Webpage

We have gone a long way in terms of developing things and activities which we can use and enjoy. Snowboarding and Myspace are two examples of such innovations.

Why would a snowboard enthusiast want to have a Myspace account? For those who are not that familiar with Myspace, it is a system that provides its subscribers with webpages which they can customize according to their specifications up to a certain extent. Al l the accounts are connected to a single worldwide network and it proves to be a great way to be able to find certain people and promote one’s works.

A snowboarder who would like to meet other snowboarders or other people who are snowboarding enthusiasts can use Myspace as an avenue to do so. Some people will also use the system to be able to promote their snowboarding products and services. Myspace is a very user-friendly system that connects people into a single network.

What does a normal Myspace webpage contain? It usually contains general information about the subscriber like his name, age, affiliations, occupations, etc. However, one ca n customize his Myspace account to be able to upload other things like animation, music or video.

So what are some of the important things that one should remember when setting up his snowboarding-themed Myspace webpage? Here are some suggestions:

-General appeal

The first thing that you need to be able to know when customizing your Myspace account layout is to determine the general appeal that you would like your website to have. Do you want it to be a website which has a powerful personal appeal or do you want to speak to your visitors in a professional tone? Knowing this will determine the other things that you would like to do in your layout.

-Background color

In determining the background color, you should always have the general theme of your website in mind. The colors should never clash against each other, rather, they should complement one another. A snowboarding-themed Myspace webpage should revolve around soothing colors such as white or blue.

-Text

The layout of Myspace accounts should maximize the readability of the text that is contained in the said account. It’s all about conveying a message to your visitors and the text should be emphasized. The background colors should not overpower the text color. Of course, substantive content is also important.

-Other elements

You can upload video or audio-visual presentations to your Myspace account by customizing the layout. You might want to consider uploading footages of some of your snowboarding escapades. It’s really a great tool to attract more visitors to your Myspace webpage.

Customizing the layout of a Myspace account can really be tricky. There are some free Myspace layout customizing services that are available in the Internet but they can use your account as a backlink to their own websites and this can complicate things.

There are free tutorials on how to use the html or what we would call the language of the internet to be able to modify the layout of a Myspace webpage. One can simply cut and paste some of the codes that are provided in the Internet to be able to customize the layout of the page.

However, if you find these things to be a little bit complicated, you can try to hire a professional to do the job for you. This can cost you a little money, but it saves you the hassle of going through all the nitty gritty details of customizing the webpage.
